When Will GTA 6 Come to PC? What Rockstar Has Actually Said
Last updated: September 11, 2026
The short answer
Rockstar has not announced a PC version of Grand Theft Auto VI. No date, no storefront, no pre-order, no system requirements.
That is not a hedge or a technicality. As of today, every official Rockstar and Take-Two listing names two platforms: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, launching Thursday 19 November 2026. Any page showing you a specific GTA 6 PC release date is showing you something nobody at Rockstar has said.
We will update this page the day that changes, and not before.

What is actually confirmed
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on console on 19 November 2026. Rockstar announced the date for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S after two delays: the original 2025 window slipped to 26 May 2026, and then to the current date. Both changes were announced by Rockstar directly.
Pre-orders opened on 25 June 2026, at $79.99 for the Standard Edition, with an Ultimate Edition above it. The pre-order pages cover the PlayStation Store, the Xbox Store and the Rockstar Store. There is no PC pre-order option, because there is no PC version to pre-order.
Rockstar reaffirmed the date in August 2026, when it published the Extended Look gameplay reveal. That reveal was the studio's biggest public moment of the year. It did not mention PC.
That last point matters more than it looks. Rockstar had a large, deliberately staged audience and chose not to say anything about a PC version. This is consistent behaviour, not an oversight.
What is not confirmed, despite what you have read
Rockstar has announced no PC release date, storefront, system requirements, beta, early access, or legitimate pre-purchase option for Grand Theft Auto VI.
There is no PC beta, no early access, and no legitimate way to pre-purchase a PC copy.
If a site is selling you a GTA 6 PC key today, it is selling you something that does not exist. There is no Rockstar, Steam or Epic listing behind it.
Why everyone still expects a PC version
Rockstar has released every mainline Grand Theft Auto on PC eventually, and the money is obvious: GTA V has sold on PC for over a decade and continues to. Skipping the platform entirely would be the first time in the studio's history.
"Very likely" is still not "announced", and the useful question is not whether, but when. For that, the only real evidence is the studio's own track record.
How long Rockstar actually takes
The table below shows the gap between each Rockstar title's console launch and its PC launch, with dates you can check yourself.
| Game | Console | PC | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Max Payne 3 | 15 May 2012 | 29 May 2012 | 2 weeks |
| Grand Theft Auto IV | 29 April 2008 | 2 December 2008 | 7 months |
| L.A. Noire | 17 May 2011 | 8 November 2011 | 6 months |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | 26 October 2018 | 5 November 2019 | 12 months |
| Grand Theft Auto V | 17 September 2013 | 14 April 2015 | 19 months |
| Red Dead Redemption | 18 May 2010 | 29 October 2024 | 14 years |
The last row is the one most articles leave out, and it is the reason to be careful with the word "inevitable". Red Dead Redemption sat on consoles for fourteen years before Rockstar ported it, and for most of that time the consensus online was that it would never happen.
It is a genuine outlier. It was a PS3-era game on an engine that did not translate well, not a flagship built on modern hardware. But it is real, and it is what the pattern looks like when it breaks.

The honest expectation
Applying the same console-to-PC gaps to Grand Theft Auto VI's confirmed 19 November 2026 launch gives a realistic PC window from roughly late 2027 to mid 2028.
PC Gamer's read, as of late August 2026, is that a PC release is unlikely before November 2027 and that Rockstar probably will not acknowledge one until some months after the console launch.
One argument for the shorter end: the PS5 and Xbox Series X are x86 machines with AMD RDNA2 graphics, architecturally much closer to a gaming PC than the PowerPC-based PS3 was when GTA V shipped. A modern port is less of a rebuild than it was in 2013.
One argument for the longer end: Rockstar is not optimising for how fast it could ship a port. It is optimising for a second commercial event, and a PC release that lands a year later, with ray tracing and ultrawide support and a fresh news cycle, is worth more than one that lands three months later into the console launch's shadow.
We are not going to pretend to know which wins. The window is a pattern, not a prediction.
What to actually do if PC is your only platform
If PC is your only platform, do not buy hardware yet. Wait for an official PC announcement instead of building around a rumour, because whatever you buy now will be a generation older by the time there is a game to run on it, and you will have paid a premium for the wait. The one exception is if your current machine is already failing you on games you play today, in which case buy for those games, not for this one.
Do not buy a console on a rumour. If you would enjoy a PS5 or a Series X for its own sake, that is a fine reason. "So I do not have to wait for GTA 6" is a $500 bet on a port schedule nobody has published.
Do not buy a PC key. See above.
Do watch for the announcement itself, which is the only thing that will actually change the picture. When it comes, it will come from Rockstar's Newswire, and it will name a date, a storefront and eventually a specification.
That is the moment this site exists for. We will send you the official requirements and the cheapest build that clears them, and nothing else in the meantime.
