Best PC Build for GTA 6 at 1080p, 1440p and 4K

Provisional. Rockstar has not announced a GTA 6 PC version or published system requirements. These builds are sized against the console hardware the game is being developed on, not against an official specification. We revise them the day real requirements exist, and email the revision to everyone on the list.
Read this before you spend anything
There are two strong reasons to wait before spending anything on a GTA 6 PC: the game is unlikely to arrive before late 2027 or 2028, and today's GPU market is inflated by a memory shortage.
There is no GTA 6 PC release date. Based on how long Rockstar's previous games took to reach PC, the realistic window runs from late 2027 to 2028.
Right now is one of the worst moments in years to buy a graphics card. A memory shortage is pushing GPU prices up across the board. AI infrastructure demand has absorbed DRAM and GDDR7 supply, NVIDIA cut RTX 50 series production by an estimated 30 to 40 percent in the first half of 2026, and cards carrying 16GB or more of VRAM have seen price rises of roughly 15 to 20 percent. The RTX 5090 launched at $1,999 and has been trading well north of $3,000. The RTX 5070 Ti launched at $749 and has spent much of the year between $900 and $1,300, at times costing as much as the RTX 5080 above it. When a step-down card costs more than the tier above it, the pricing ladder is broken.
The silicon has not changed. There is no new architecture and no new manufacturing node. You would be paying more for identical performance, and the RTX 50 Super refresh that was supposed to fix the VRAM situation has slipped to CES 2027.
So the usual advice to wait for the next generation does not apply this year either, because there is no next generation arriving on the desktop. The advice is simply: if you can wait, wait.
These builds are useful in three situations:
- You need a gaming PC anyway, for games that exist now, and want one that will still be credible when GTA 6 arrives.
- You are budgeting ahead and want to know what the target costs.
- You are upgrading one part and want to know which part is holding you back.

How these builds are sized
These builds are sized from the confirmed console hardware, with headroom built in, rather than from an invented spec sheet.
GTA 6 is built to run on the Xbox Series S at the bottom and the Xbox Series X and PS5 at the top. Those are 2020 AMD machines: 8-core Zen 2 CPUs, RDNA 2 graphics between roughly 4 and 12 teraflops, 16 GB of shared memory, fast NVMe storage.
So the console experience is the floor, not the ceiling. Every Rockstar PC port has shipped with settings that had no console equivalent, and the recommended specification has always been written against those settings rather than against parity. GTA V's PC requirements landed well above what people extrapolated from the console version, for exactly this reason.
Each build below therefore targets its resolution with headroom, on the assumption that the PC version asks for more than the console version does.
What matters, in order
The GPU decides your resolution. This is where the money goes and it is not close. The gap between a 1080p-capable card and a 4K-capable one is larger than every other difference in the build combined.
VRAM is the thing people underbuy. 12GB is the working floor at 1440p in 2026 and 16GB is the comfortable target. Running out of video memory does not cause a gentle slowdown, it causes stuttering that no other setting fixes. For a game arriving in two years, do not buy a card whose VRAM is borderline today. This is also the specific reason we lean AMD in the first two tiers: in the current market, Radeon is where 16GB is cheapest.
The CPU matters more than usual here. Dense open-world simulation, traffic, crowds and streaming are CPU-bound work, and GTA games have historically been harder on CPUs than their graphics suggest. This is also a workload that rewards cache specifically, which is why AMD's X3D chips earn their premium in this genre when they do not in others.
32 GB of RAM is the current sensible baseline, not 16. Cheapest part of the build to get right and one of the most annoying to fix later.
NVMe storage is not optional. Both consoles stream assets from fast SSDs and the engine is designed around that. Plan for well over 100 GB and leave room.
The PSU is where people cut corners and regret it. Size it for the GPU with margin, buy a reputable unit, and it will outlive two builds.
The builds
Below are three builds for GTA 6 at 1080p, 1440p and 4K, sized against the confirmed console hardware because no official PC requirements exist.
Prices are US street prices as of September 2026 and are moving week to week because of the memory shortage. Treat them as a snapshot, not a quote.
1080p / 60fps — roughly $1,000 to $1,300
For a 1080p monitor at 60 Hz, aiming at high settings rather than ultra. This is the tier that corresponds most closely to what the consoles are doing, with enough headroom that it should not be obsolete on arrival.

Tighter budget: the Intel Arc B580 12GB at $249 to $289 uses GDDR6 rather than GDDR7 and carries almost no shortage premium, which makes it the one card in this market that still costs roughly what it should. You give up some performance, and Intel's drivers, while much improved, are the least mature of the three. It is a reasonable trade if the alternative is not building at all.
1440p / high settings — roughly $1,700 to $2,100
The tier we would actually recommend to most people. 1440p is where the price-to-image-quality curve is kindest, and a card sized for 1440p today is the one most likely to still be comfortable in 2028.

If the 9800X3D is out of budget: the Ryzen 7 9700X at around $299 is the honest step down, and you keep the AM5 socket for a later X3D upgrade. Do not cut the GPU to afford the CPU at this tier — the resolution is the GPU's job.
4K — roughly $2,400 to $2,900
For a 4K display, with upscaling assumed rather than treated as a fallback. Native 4K at high settings in a game of this density is demanding on any hardware, and DLSS 4 and FSR 4 are good enough that building around them is the sane choice rather than a compromise.

Do not buy an RTX 5090 for this. It launched at $1,999 and has been trading above $3,000, with forecasts of worse. You would be paying roughly triple the 5080's price for around 25% more performance, in a game that does not exist yet, during a shortage. There is no version of that maths that works.
If you are upgrading rather than building
If you are upgrading an existing PC for GTA 6, spend on the GPU first, because the GPU is the part that decides which resolution you can play at.
- You have 16 GB of RAM. Go to 32. It is cheap and it is the most common real bottleneck in machines that otherwise look fine.
- The game is on a mechanical hard drive. Move it to an NVMe SSD. This fixes more perceived stutter in open-world games than any graphics setting.
- Your CPU is more than two generations behind your GPU. At that point you are paying for graphics performance you cannot use, and an open-world GTA title is precisely the workload that exposes it.
- Your GPU has 8GB of VRAM. This is the one upgrade worth making ahead of the game rather than after it, because 8GB is already marginal at 1440p and will be the first thing to break.
Why these will change
These builds are provisional, and three things will change them: official requirements, the memory shortage, and new hardware.
Rockstar will publish real requirements, and we will resize every tier against them instead of against console inference. That is the revision we email out.
The shortage will ease, or it will not. New memory fabrication capacity is coming and the RTX 50 Super refresh is expected at CES 2027. Either could reset the prices above substantially, in either direction.
The hardware will move on its own. GPU generations turn over roughly every two years, and a card that is the right pick today will not be the right pick when the game ships.
If you want the version that is correct on the day it matters rather than the version that is correct today, get on the list. One email when the requirements drop, one when the builds are revised, nothing else.
